The Communication Competitions
- Tollakson Outstanding Club— The FWSA Tollakson Outstanding Club award is presented to an outstanding club based on club activity, member participation in racing, membership growth, communication frequency, contributions to the community, volunteerism and leadership, delegate attendance at FWSA Convention, and member participation in FWSA travel.

- Wentworth Outstanding Club Publication— The Wentworth Award is given to the club whose newsletters are judged best based on specific criteria promoting layout, and content.

- Outstanding Club/Council Social Media Site(s) - The Outstanding Club/Council Social Media Award is given to the club or council whose social media site(s) is judged best based on criteria based on site activity, audience growth and engagement. This award is new for 2021 and the focus is Facebook groups or pages. past award winners...
Classifications
- In 2015 class competition were restructured to provide a more constructive competition. The classification criteria are applied over the previous four years.
- Novice:Clubs who either have never entered or haven’t placed for the past 4 years or won a first place Novice award.
- Advanced:Clubs who have won second and third place in the past 4 years.
- Masters:Clubs who have won first place in the past 4 years.
Criteria
Introduction. The application procedures are continuing the greatly simplified application process that resulted in more club and council entries. Clubs and councils do not need to submit judges. Your council presidents are forming a committee of judges. We are looking for volunteers.
Please contact Bill King, to volunteer. If you haven’t entered for a while, please look at this year’s procedures and consider entering your club or council.
Outstanding Club Award.
The Tollakson Award criteria has been simplified and the submission process is streamlined. The new submission process requires only numerical or yes/no answers - no essays.
Club and Council Newsletter Awards. Submit ONE* newsletter in any of the following forms:
- Submit any electronic format such as PDF file, link to your newsletter on a website, or Word document via email to Bill King.
- Hard copy mailed to Bill King, 2019 NE 179th St. Unit D17 Ridgefield, WA 98642.
*Newsletters will be judged according to the criteria posted. Submit what you think is the edition that is the best version that will match up with the criteria. You have until the submission due date (March 18, 2024) to make adjustments if you so desire.
Club and Council Website Award. Send link to website to Bill King.
Websites will be judged according to the criteria posted. Councils and clubs submitting a newsletter will automatically have their website considered unless they opt out. We discovered over the years that several clubs who submitted newsletters had very good websites, as well, but did not enter them.

Social media pages and groups will be judged according to audience growth, site activity, and audience engagement. Submit the Facebook Insights file for either the Facebook Page or Facebook Group that is the best version for your club or council that will match up with the criteria. You have until the submission due date of March 18, 2024.

Judging
Clubs and councils do not need to submit judges. Your council presidents will be forming a committee of judges; however, we will happily accept volunteers.
