The Far West Ski Association (FWSA) is by far the largest ski association, and not surprisingly, has a sophisticated and far reaching recognition program. The earliest awards documented, started almost 50 years ago in 1966, and were formalized into the format that continues today. The Far West Ski Association awards are highly revered by ski pioneers, long-term volunteers, and industry employees.

The program enjoys recognition by the Western SkiSport Museum located at Boreal Ridge off the I-80 at Donner Summit. The museum maintains a display of all past award recipients near the front entrance and archives nominee citations. When the new Ski Museum is completed in Squaw Valley, CA, the display and archives will be moved there.
